In the new school the technology is better but honestly, the layout is bad, crowded hallways, between periods and at the end of the day, are the result of small hallways and lockers are on either side. The academics are great and Mountview was voted #1 in Massachusetts. I think they rushed to build the school because there were three pipes that burst last month, the girls locker room (where one pipe burst) still has water stains on the ground, benches, and lockers... they didn't even bother to clean it, all they did was let it dry. Sometimes the locker room still smells. Last year when we moved into the new school, they were still testing things out and some walls weren't painted. About the time around Thanksgiving, they had turkey and gravy for lunch. At Dawson Elementary School, (granted, it has been a few years) the turkey and gravy... actually all of the school lunch... isn't bad. When I had the turkey at Mountview, it was clearly a mash up of white and dark meat. Not only that but, the dark meat was hard and when I cut it, it looked raw. The white meat was the only part I ate so for lunch I had two bites of turkey, with some mashed potatoes (I choose not to think about what the turkey or mashed potatoes really were). Luckily, that was one of the days that I forgot that I was buying lunch, so I had brought my lunchbox that had some snacks in it. The lockers are a pretty good size. I really like my teachers and liked my teachers last year. I did (and do) have teachers that I absolutely cannot stand (anybody that goes to Mountview will probably know who those teachers are), but, like I said, I like my teachers, academics, and Mountview was voted best in Massachusetts.
I am currently finishing my last year here at Mountview, and don't get me wrong, I absolutely love this school and the teachers, it just seems like they rushed us into the new building. The new building is great, it's just that the hallways and lockers are way too small. The classrooms are a perfect size to fit everyone, and the dehumidifiers work amazing! Last year in the old school, I would sit in the classrooms sweating because of how hot it was, but now, we don't have to worry about that. I don't know if you could do something about this, but the hallways on the 8th grade floor are way too crammed, so maybe we could put some lockers in the pods to make a little more space? Anyways I definitely recommend this school, because the staff are exceptional (outstanding), and I really think children coming into this school will enjoy it! :)
All in all, a pretty decent school. I will admit that it has its faults. Such as falling ceiling tiles and size. These issues (besides the tiles, those are simply inexplicable) may be based of the fact that Massachusetts state law dictates that the school must be large enough to accommodate the current number of students, without much plan for the future. This could be circumvented by not following those laws, but that would mean that Massachusetts would provide significantly less financial support if any at all. So if we were able to direct the entire town budget into the building project, it might have come out better. Though, and I speak as someone who spent 2 1/2 years in the old school, I believe that the new school is a drastic improvement to the school and the community.
i am currently in sixth grade and the water sucks the halls are so small academics re awesome though and nice staff.
